East Exit No. 2 — morning shift — handover
(Date field, only as far as “11/”. The rest is illegible.)
-
Six o’clock, unlock and take the count. From the end row. The sign reads full, and that checks out
-
Row D is the only odd one. One bicycle, always the same one, stays in the middle, and the spaces on either side of it empty out. The lot is full, yet that spot alone is open
-
Even when I recount, the number on the sign matches. And still the empty space is left over
-
I packed the two sides in and lined them up again. By the next morning they had slid back one space outward. When I ask the ones who moved their bikes, all they say is “somehow, this side”
-
Last month it was a row farther over, I think. The same one bicycle has moved to Row D before I noticed. The empty space came with it
-
It never moves toward the side I packed. It always leaves the one bicycle in the middle and spreads outward
Route notes:
A → B → C → E → F
※ No D. Yesterday’s page, and the one before, the route leaves out only D
※ It is my own handwriting, yet while writing it I never notice where I skip it
× When counting, do not leave Row D for last
× Do not let a “somehow” slide
(A line at the bottom of the same page, in ink of a different density)
Leave the sign at full, that is fine. The numbers match. The only open one is Row D, and that place is
[Torn from here]
