[Question] My step count goes up while I’m asleep

1 Anonymous 2010/06/15 (Tue) 23:41
I failed my health checkup and the doctor told me to walk eight thousand steps a day.
Last week I bought a pedometer. The kind you clip to your waist.
I wanted to measure accurately, so I kept it on while sleeping too.
Last night I made sure I reset it to 0 before bed, and this morning it read 2643.
Is this a known glitch on some models?

2 Anonymous 2010/06/15 (Tue) 23:44
at least tell us the model

3 Anonymous 2010/06/15 (Tue) 23:52
wife or kid touched it, case closed

4 1 2010/06/15 (Tue) 23:58
>>3 I live alone
>>2 Sorry. It was the cheapest one at the electronics store, that is all I know. The box says pendulum type

5 Anonymous 2010/06/16 (Wed) 00:03
pendulum type counts you tossing and turning
it’ll pick up the futon shaking, even

6 Anonymous 2010/06/16 (Wed) 00:11
who tosses and turns 2643 times lol

7 Anonymous 2010/06/16 (Wed) 00:12
someone might

8 Anonymous 2010/06/16 (Wed) 00:31
take it off and leave it on your desk tonight
if it still goes up it’s a malfunction, if not it’s your sleep posture

9 1 2010/06/16 (Wed) 00:36
>>8 Understood. I will try that tonight.

10 1 2010/06/17 (Thu) 06:58
I left it on the desk. It had not gone up. Still 0.

11 Anonymous 2010/06/17 (Thu) 07:20
welp, case closed

12 Anonymous 2010/06/17 (Thu) 08:41
heard this turned into a sleep posture thread

13 Anonymous 2010/06/17 (Thu) 12:02
to be sure, try wearing it to bed for a few nights too
see if it goes up every night, and how much the number varies
also >>1 get a tripcode. verification threads attract impostors

14 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/17 (Thu) 22:47
>>13 I will try that. Is this how the tripcode works?

15 Anonymous 2010/06/17 (Thu) 23:04
yep that’s it

16 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/18 (Fri) 07:12
I wore it to bed. 2688.

17 Anonymous 2010/06/18 (Fri) 07:19
way too many for tossing and turning

18 Anonymous 2010/06/18 (Fri) 07:40
that’s you walking in your sleep, man
sleepwalking. go to a hospital if this is real

19 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/18 (Fri) 07:52
>>18 No one has ever told me I do that, not even as a child.
Though now that you say it, my calves do feel a little tight this morning.

20 Anonymous 2010/06/18 (Fri) 08:00
“feels like” counts for nothing
measure again tomorrow

21 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/19 (Sat) 08:31
2641.

22 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/20 (Sun) 09:02
2650. It comes out to about the same number.

23 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 09:15
so three nights, 2688, 2641, 2650
that’s not even 2% variance. no way that’s tossing or random rattling

24 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 09:40
that’s a number doing the same thing every night

25 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 10:15
stride of 70cm, 2650 steps is a bit over 1.8km
anything around 1.8km from your place, >>1?

26 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 10:22
round trip, obviously. look at 900m one way

27 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/20 (Sun) 10:44
>>25 I measured on a map. The intersection on the national route is about 1.9km away.
At 900m there is a convenience store, a monthly parking lot, and the entrance of a park.

28 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 10:51
if it turns out you’re just walkign to the store for midnight snacks lol

29 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 10:53
there’d be receipts or a bag left over, then

30 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/20 (Sun) 11:07
My wallet has not gone down. The front door was locked.

31 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 11:12
sleepwalkers open and close locks fine, apparently. means nothing

32 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 11:30
hang on. if he’s going to that intersection 1.9km out, the round trip is 3.8km, call it 5400 steps
if there’s only 2650, that’s one way only

33 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 11:33
what?

34 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 11:35
wait what does that even mean

35 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 11:41
the steps going out are there, and the steps coming back are nowhere
but he wakes up in his futon
how are you getting home

36 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 12:02
how? the pedometor just stops counting partway, obviously
battery dying or something

37 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/20 (Sun) 12:19
The battery went in last week. It counts normally in the daytime.
Today it says 4211 so far.

38 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 12:24
normal in the daytime, huh…

39 Anonymous 2010/06/20 (Sun) 13:01
eh, machines do whatever in the night damp
more importantly, see the doctor. if you’re walking outside asleep, you’ll get hit by a car

40 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/20 (Sun) 13:15
>>39 I will call on Monday. Thank you.

41 Anonymous 2010/06/21 (Mon) 00:12
bump

42 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/22 (Tue) 06:55
2639.
I got an appointment for next Friday. I did not know whether internal medicine was the right place, so I am starting with my regular clinic.

43 Anonymous 2010/06/22 (Tue) 07:31
thanks for the report. that number is way too stable

44 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/23 (Wed) 06:58
2644.

45 Anonymous 2010/06/23 (Wed) 10:15
this is basically a daily journal now

46 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/24 (Thu) 06:59
2641.
Also, of the sneakers at the front door, only the right one feels damp (it hasn’t rained

47 Anonymous 2010/06/24 (Thu) 07:22
uh oh

48 Anonymous 2010/06/24 (Thu) 07:30
what do you mean only the right one. is the left dry

49 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/24 (Thu) 07:41
The left is as always. Only the right, around the toe, is damp.

50 Anonymous 2010/06/24 (Thu) 08:02
you stepped in a puddle somewhere
also >>46 close your parenthesis

51 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/24 (Thu) 22:10
>>50 Sorry.

52 Anonymous 2010/06/25 (Fri) 00:44
looking forward to what the doctor says. report back

53 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/25 (Fri) 07:03
2648.

54 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/26 (Sat) 08:12
2643.
Starting tonight, I will take the pedometer off and leave it on the shelf in the living room.
When I think about being counted, I feel like my sleep gets even shallower.

55 Anonymous 2010/06/26 (Sat) 08:30
sure. just, the number stopping doesn’t mean the walking stopped

56 Anonymous 2010/06/26 (Sat) 09:11
>>55 stop

57 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/27 (Sun) 09:40
I left it off. The pedometer stayed at 0.
But the way I felt on waking was the same as the nights I wore it. My legs are heavy.
Honestly, I am a little scared.

58 Anonymous 2010/06/27 (Sun) 09:52
so you’re still walking, it just isn’t recorded

59 Anonymous 2010/06/27 (Sun) 10:00
that’s worse. the number just went invisible

60 Anonymous 2010/06/27 (Sun) 10:19
wear it. keep the record at least

61 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/27 (Sun) 10:31
>>60 I will. If there is a record, I can show the doctor too.

62 Anonymous 2010/06/28 (Mon) 23:50
so how was last night

63 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/29 (Tue) 06:57
2637.

64 Anonymous 2010/06/29 (Tue) 12:33
everyone’s up tonight for the Japan match anyway
if you walk out, someone might actually see you for once

65 Anonymous 2010/06/30 (Wed) 02:04
we lost… I can’t take penalty shootouts…

66 Anonymous 2010/06/30 (Wed) 02:12
and nothing from OP over here. going to bed

67 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/30 (Wed) 22:31
Tonight I am going to try staying awake. If I get sleepy I will write here.

68 Anonymous 2010/06/30 (Wed) 22:40
a live thread now? lol, I’m in. still short on sleep from that shootout though

69 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/06/30 (Wed) 23:14
I made coffee. The pedometer is on my waist. 1449 steps. That is today’s daytime count.

70 Anonymous 2010/06/30 (Wed) 23:59
you up?

71 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/01 (Thu) 00:01
I am up. With the TV off the room is quiet, and it feels strange.

72 Anonymous 2010/07/01 (Thu) 00:48
hang in there

73 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/01 (Thu) 01:26
Still awake. Not sleepy.

74 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/01 (Thu) 06:52
I am sorry. When I came to, I was in my futon.
I remember writing at 1:26. I have no memory after that.
The pedometer said 4090. Subtracting yesterday’s daytime count leaves 2641.

75 Anonymous 2010/07/01 (Thu) 07:15
don’t fall asleep in your own live thread lol
…can’t even laugh. the part where you get back into your own futon is the scary part

76 Anonymous 2010/07/01 (Thu) 07:44
we sat up with coffee keeping you company, and meanwhile the body just ran its schedule

77 Anonymous 2010/07/01 (Thu) 08:20
>>74 doctor’s tomorrow, right. tell them everything, exactly as written

78 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/02 (Fri) 19:44
I went to the hospital.
Blood tests, and for the brain scan I got a referral letter to a bigger hospital.
The doctor said it is likely fatigue and stress. The specialist sleep clinic has a two-month wait.

79 Anonymous 2010/07/02 (Fri) 20:02
two months?! and he walks every night in the meantime?

80 Anonymous 2010/07/02 (Fri) 20:31
easy now. it’s not like it’s life-threatening

81 Anonymous 2010/07/02 (Fri) 20:33
it is if he’s walking a national route

82 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/04 (Sun) 08:12
2643. Sorry, I forgot to write yesterday
Yesterday’s was 2641

83 Anonymous 2010/07/04 (Sun) 09:30
thanks. unusual kind of thing for you to forget

84 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/05 (Mon) 07:02
2640. Sleepy. Sorry.

85 Anonymous 2010/07/05 (Mon) 07:26
well yeah, it’s like walking 4km there and back every night and then going to work…
take a day off

86 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/06 (Tue) 06:59
2641.
Lately, when I wake up, it feels like I have only just come home.
Like I have just stepped back into the room from the front door

87 Anonymous 2010/07/06 (Tue) 07:23
hey now

88 Anonymous 2010/07/06 (Tue) 07:38
is your memory coming back, then
medically that might be a good sign. do you remember any dreams

89 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/06 (Tue) 21:50
>>88 I do not think I dream.
Sometimes the cold of the front door is still on my hand. That is all

90 Anonymous 2010/07/06 (Tue) 22:04
“that is all”? that’s plenty

91 Anonymous 2010/07/08 (Thu) 00:15
bump (´・ω・`)

92 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/08 (Thu) 07:01
2642

93 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/10 (Sat) 15:33
Today, in the daytime, I walked to that intersection.
From my place to the intersection was 2655 steps. The round trip was 5307 steps.
The night number is the outbound half only.

94 Anonymous 2010/07/10 (Sat) 15:41
so it really is exactly one way…

95 Anonymous 2010/07/10 (Sat) 15:58
>>93 what kind of intersection is it. anything there?

96 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/10 (Sat) 16:20
>>95 An ordinary intersection. A national route, two lanes, a signal, a crosswalk, and a push-button.
On the far side there are rice fields for a while, and an industrial park beyond.
In daylight, as far as I could see, there is nothing.

97 Anonymous 2010/07/10 (Sat) 16:27
nothing there is somehow worse

98 Anonymous 2010/07/10 (Sat) 17:02
what happened to the theory that it just miscounts the way back

99 Anonymous 2010/07/10 (Sat) 17:09
>>98 it counted the daytime round trip fine, 5307
what kind of malfunction skips only the way back, only at night

100 Anonymous 2010/07/10 (Sat) 17:15
maybe he walks differently coming home at night? a pendulum type won’t count shuffling

101 Anonymous 2010/07/10 (Sat) 17:22
do not make me picture 2km of shuffling home. stop

102 Anonymous 2010/07/10 (Sat) 18:40
seriously, just move out

103 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/10 (Sat) 19:12
>>102 With work and the lease, it would be difficult right away.
But I am considering that too.

104 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/12 (Mon) 07:04
It had not gone up. 0.

105 Anonymous 2010/07/12 (Mon) 07:19
oh, it stopped?

106 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/13 (Tue) 06:57
0 again this morning. I slept well.

107 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/15 (Thu) 07:00
Four nights with no increase. My legs feel light too.
I hope it settles down like this.

108 Anonymous 2010/07/15 (Thu) 07:31
graduate from the thread while you’re ahead

109 Anonymous 2010/07/15 (Thu) 12:44
what even was it, in the end

110 Anonymous 2010/07/16 (Fri) 23:05
rainy season’s supposed to end soon, by the way. good weather for walks (daytime ones)

111 Anonymous 2010/07/17 (Sat) 00:31
guess the thread just falls off the board like this. peace is best

112 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/17 (Sat) 08:19
0.
It is thanks to all of you keeping me company. Thank you very much.

113 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/18 (Sun) 07:44
2641

114 Anonymous 2010/07/18 (Sun) 07:59
and it’s back…

115 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/18 (Sun) 08:03
sorry

116 Anonymous 2010/07/18 (Sun) 08:10
nothing to apologize for

117 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/19 (Mon) 07:12
2640 it is a holiday so I will sleep after this

118 Anonymous 2010/07/19 (Mon) 09:26
yeah, rest. where’d your punctuation go

119 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/20 (Tue) 06:58
2641
I do not think the return half needs counting. The way back is already a known road.

120 Anonymous 2010/07/20 (Tue) 07:15
>>119 what is that supposed to mean

121 Anonymous 2010/07/20 (Tue) 07:22
what do you mean, known road. the way OUT is your own neighborhood road too

122 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/20 (Tue) 07:40
Sorry. There is an order, so I am off to work.

123 Anonymous 2010/07/20 (Tue) 07:46
an order of what

124 Anonymous 2010/07/20 (Tue) 08:15
>>1 man, your writing — no, what you’re saying has gone strange. go reread yourself
June you was fine

125 Anonymous 2010/07/20 (Tue) 08:24
attention seeker. just ignore and move on

126 Anonymous 2010/07/20 (Tue) 08:31
just sleep deprivation… is what I want to think, but
>>119 genuinely worries me

127 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/20 (Tue) 22:44
>>124 I reread it. It is true, I think it is strange.
But I could not tell where it is strange.
I am sorry for worrying you.

128 Anonymous 2010/07/20 (Tue) 23:01
can’t you contact your family, your parents’ place

129 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/20 (Tue) 23:19
I do not want to worry them, so it is fine.

130 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/21 (Wed) 23:47
Come to think of it, what was that sound of water?
It has been on my mind.

131 Anonymous 2010/07/21 (Wed) 23:55
sound of water?

132 Anonymous 2010/07/22 (Thu) 00:04
what are you talking about. water has not come up once in this thread

133 Anonymous 2010/07/22 (Thu) 00:19
if there are rice fields before the intersection, there’d be an irrigation channel, I guess

134 Anonymous 2010/07/22 (Thu) 00:23
>>133 he said nothing about water when he went in the daytime
why is the sound of it at night coming up now

135 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/22 (Thu) 06:55
5282

136 Anonymous 2010/07/22 (Thu) 07:08
what? it went UP?

137 Anonymous 2010/07/22 (Thu) 07:11
5282 is exactly double 2641

138 Anonymous 2010/07/22 (Thu) 07:19
so that night he made the round trip? he walked back

139 Anonymous 2010/07/22 (Thu) 07:24
wait. if it is always one way, then all the other nights he

140 Anonymous 2010/07/22 (Thu) 07:25
>>139 stop. don’t write it

141 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/22 (Thu) 07:41
Yesterday seems to have been a returning day. Sorry.
Off to work.

142 Anonymous 2010/07/22 (Thu) 07:50
what is a returning day. then what are the other days

143 Anonymous 2010/07/22 (Thu) 08:02
anyone live near >>1? an intersection on a national route, rice fields before it, an industrial park past it.
…yeah, that narrows down nothing, does it

144 Anonymous 2010/07/22 (Thu) 08:44
asking that on an anonymous board is hopeless… and he can’t exactly post his address

145 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/24 (Sat) 04:44
>>28 It is not the convenience store. I went and checked just now.
I did not take my wallet.

146 Anonymous 2010/07/24 (Sat) 06:50
>>145 that is a reply to last month. why are you answering it now

147 Anonymous 2010/07/24 (Sat) 06:58
“went and checked just now” — the post is at 4:44 am
you went outside? at that hour? just now?

148 Anonymous 2010/07/24 (Sat) 09:12
this is genuinely bad now. please be fiction

149 Anonymous 2010/07/24 (Sat) 10:03
replying seriously to a made-up story, fine, whatever — if it’s fiction, just post the next part
if it’s real, get that appointment moved up. by phone, anything

150 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/25 (Sun) 07:31
2641.

151 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/25 (Sun) 07:37
2641.

152 Anonymous 2010/07/25 (Sun) 08:02
>>150-151 you posted it twice. you okay

153 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/26 (Mon) 07:02
2643. The order is near today, so I will keep this short.
The shoes were dry. The right and the left. It is the first time they have been dry.

154 Anonymous 2010/07/26 (Mon) 07:30
dry means it’s getting better, doesn’t it? right?

155 Anonymous 2010/07/26 (Mon) 07:52
>>153 why is dry a “first,” and why did you feel you had to report it
something changed there, didn’t it

156 Anonymous 2010/07/26 (Mon) 21:15
hey OP, you alive

157 1 ◆Fw6mAo2ehU 2010/07/29 (Thu) 02:36
I am going now.
Today is the last day I go on foot.
I no longer need the pedometer, but I will wear it out of habit.
Everyone, thank you for everything.

158 Anonymous 2010/07/29 (Thu) 02:40
hey

159 Anonymous 2010/07/29 (Thu) 02:41
>>157 going WHERE. hey

160 Anonymous 2010/07/29 (Thu) 03:15
is anyone else awake
not that there is a single thing we could do, but

161 Anonymous 2010/07/29 (Thu) 07:33
it’s morning. OP, last night you were just half asleep, right?
even just the number is fine, post something

162 Anonymous 2010/07/30 (Fri) 22:10
bump (´・ω・`)

163 Anonymous 2010/07/31 (Sat) 23:55
threads like this always end this way, don’t they
if it’s fiction, I can at least say nice work
